I came across this 2009 talk that John Gruber gave at the Macworld Expo. He unpacks the meaning of the Auteur Theory of Design and how it can be applied to everything you’re working on. Think of iconic films – the director's unique style and vision are unmistakable. Gruber argues that this same principle applies to other creative projects. He emphasizes the importance of trusting your gut and championing the vision you believe in most. The unwavering belief in a strong vision, coupled with a commitment to quality and craft, can be the recipe for creating something remarkable and enduring.
"The quality of any creative endeavor tends to approach the level of taste of whoever is in charge."
— John Gruber

Mymind is one of my favorite apps that I use regularly—yep, it’s the one that I’ve mentioned way too many times on Moonlights. Recently, they just rolled out a new feature called “Same Vibe," an easy way to look through everything you’ve saved and connect anything that’s similar to the reference image.
Check out below what happens when I click Same Vibe on a hat that I saved. It finds all the hats I’ve saved that look similar. I’ve used this a ton already, and it’s saved me a lot of time while also resurfacing things I may have forgotten about.
Kitchen 🍳
This past year, I’ve been able to slowly acquire some kitchen tools that I hope are around for the long haul. For the essentials, I was looking for high-quality, valuable, reliable, and beautiful items that would last.
So far, these have been some of my favorites:
Ads 📰
The Nike and Lulu ads generated a lot of responses last week, which got me thinking about other photo-based ads that are memorable. Minimal copy, a bit of surrealism, wonder, and fantastic photography do the trick. Check out some of my favorites.
From Me 🎒
The spring weather has been so nice in Nashville, which means lots of midday walks to this place. I know the summer heat will be here soon, but I’m trying to soak this in for as long as we have it.
I hope you all have a great weekend 🙌
