Moonlights #10

Last week I got a chance to check out MOAD’s new exhibit, featuring Loriel Beltrán, Jorge Pardo and Hreinn Fridfinnsson. Loriel happened to be in the building, and we got a chance to hear him explain more about his process 🤯
Affixing slabs of layered paint, sliced from blocks hardened in boxlike molds, to panels, the artist creates innovative abstract works of dazzling opticality and metaphorical density.
Constructed from strips of congealed paint arranged either horizontally or vertically on the work’s support, Beltrán’s canvases appear as stacked structures, assemblages, or objects.

Have you ever heard of The Avocado Collective? Me neither. The agency, Block, did a stellar job on this rebrand. I love the simplicity—using the shape of an avocado seems so obvious, it’s subtle and effective, without overdoing it.

It’s hard to find great recommendations for kitchen products, or really, any product. Search on Amazon, scroll past the ads, look for the 5-star options, find something affordable, read some reviews, click buy it now and hope for the best. But sometimes, you find that secret place on the internet that you fully trust. Cult Favorite is my secret. It’s the first place I visit before making any kitchen-related purchases. Their latest article, Kitchen Scales That Punch Above Their Weight Class, is a great intro to their style. No fluff, no ads, and honest reviews (can you believe it??)! Also, the design, photography, and copy are soo good. Bryn and Sarah are both super talented, and the time and effort they put into these reviews/recs is top shelf 🙌

There’s a new transition happening from the physical to the digital world. Art plays a significant role in that movement. In the past, to own a rare piece of art, you had to own the tangible piece. Now, you can own an image stored on a digital wallet, and the ownership is verifiable through the blockchain. Unlike traditional art, digital art is accessible to the masses. I think it’s very likely we all have the chance to collect the next Pollock or Picasso of our time. Some of the top artists are already selling NFTs worth millions. I think we’re still in the first inning—there will be ups and downs, no question, but this is a monumental transition, and I’m stoked to be a part of it.
From Me 🎒
Happy Friday — I’m working on many things in flight, so there is nothing to share on that front yet. So here’s a picture of a sunset in Miami! I’m looking forward to sharing some of the design work I’ve been doing, plus a sneak peek of my first NFT collection.
