Moonlights #15

The paintings below were created by an artificial intelligence system that can create images from scratch using natural language. Say hello to DALL•E 2. In the example below, you can see the phrase given to the AI. The one on the left was the system from over a year ago. The one on the right is the newer version.
“A painting of a fox sitting in a field at sunrise in the style of Claude Monet”
It’s also possible to create other paintings based on the original 😵💫 As the art world wrestles with what AI art means for the industry, the AI keeps getting better and better. Check out the image below.

One of the coolest things I saw this week. SentryWorld, a golf course in Wisconsin, is creating a ‘new golf experience’ launching later this year. They’re attempting to create an all-inclusive experience, so once you pay for your round of golf, everything else is on the house. Shout out to the greenskeeper! My new goal → to help design a hole on a golf course 🎨⛳️

DeeKay Kwon is one of my favorite artists and animators. He creates these incredible animations, telling deep stories and surprising and delighting you along the way.
We are born. We live life.
We face death at the end of the road,
but memories of us remain and live on.
What stage are you on?

From Me 🎒
I love creating products and brands, but most of the time I’m restricted by a visual system or a defined structure. There are advantages to being constrained—who remembers when Instagram only allowed square images? They differentiated themselves visually by imposing constraints. These systems can be extremely useful in a variety of ways.
Rhythm and consistency are key components of effective design. Your typography and line spacing can have a huge psychological impact on your viewers. You can find comfort in looking at a well-executed grid system, even if you can't see the grid. Despite the fact that designing with constraints can be helpful, it can also be constraining.
When I'm painting, my only constraint is the size of the canvas. I have the freedom to let the brush decide where to go next, not the design system. Instead of worrying about spacing, scale, visual hierarchy, color, padding, and other design attributes, I paint whatever I want 😎
I’ve been working on this one for a while—although it's a work in progress—I like how it's shaping up.
I hope you all enjoy the weekend, Happy Easter 🐰
