Moonlights #37

Earlier this week, Adobe agreed to buy Figma for $20 billion — I’ve spent thousands of hours in Figma over the years, and it’s been one of my favorite design tools. I hope they continue to let Figma operate independently. Congrats to the Figma team — what a fantastic journey, starting with a simple browser-based designed tool and, many years later, selling for TWENTY BILLION DOLLARS 🤯.

Last week Sue Bird, one of the greatest WNBA players of all time, retired from the sport she helped to change. This video sums up her career and impact on and off the court. Serena and Sue are retiring in the same month, and now Federer as well. It's always hard watching some of the greats hang it up, but it's also exciting to know that there is a void for young players to fill.

There is a Japanese concept called Ikigai, which basically means your reason for being. There are different interpretations of the word, where the Japanese philosophy focuses on finding your own bliss, and the western interpretation focuses more on your career. I made this diagram below based on some other images I’ve seen. The idea is to try and find what you love, what you are good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for. The overlap of those four things is your own personal Ikigai. Here’s a book on the secret to a long and happy life (I have not read this)!
Shows 📺
I just started watching Welcome to Wrexham on Hulu. At first, I thought it was a Ted Lasso knock-off, but Ryan Reynolds actually bought the team and is trying to help them win games in hopes of being promoted to the league above them. So far, it’s been excellent. The last show I watched (also from Hulu) was Bear, which I loved. Any other shows I should be watching?
From Me 🎒
I’ve spent the last week back at home, where I grew up, and it’s been so lovely to spend time with family and my two nephews! The fall weather is creeping in, and I’m excited about the home stretch of 2022. I hope you all have a great weekend 🙌
